SimmerStead should be usable by as many people as possible, including readers who rely on assistive technology such as screen readers, keyboard navigation, or browser zoom. This page explains what we do toward that, where we know we fall short, and how to tell us when something does not work for you.
What we aim for
We use the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, level AA, as our reference. We treat it as a target we work toward, not a certified guarantee. We have not commissioned a formal third-party accessibility audit, so we describe this as an ongoing effort rather than a finished compliance claim.
What is in place
- Semantic headings and a single H1 per page, so the structure is clear to screen readers.
- Alt text on content images.
- A responsive layout that works down to small mobile screens and reflows when the page is zoomed.
- Text that can be resized in the browser without breaking the layout.
- A recipe card with a “Jump to Recipe” link so you can skip the introduction.
- Clear in-page links so you can move straight to the part you need.
- The contact form uses standard labelled fields.
Known limitations
We want to be honest rather than make a blanket claim:
- Alt text on some older images is generic and is being improved over time.
- Advertising and other third-party embeds are not fully under our control and may not meet the same standard as our own content.
- Colour contrast on a few brand-coloured elements is still being reviewed.
- We have not completed a full assistive-technology test pass across every page.
Reporting a problem
If any part of this site is hard to use with assistive technology, or you cannot reach a recipe you need, tell us through our contact page. Describe the page and what went wrong. We treat accessibility problems as a priority and will get back to you, and we will tell you honestly if a fix will take time.
